gaywrites:
The General Assembly in Illinois just passed a bill that would add to existing anti-bullying measures to strengthen them. The bill will now move on to the state Senate.
According to the Windy City Times, this bill doesn’t add any LGBT specific measures to anti-bullying laws (luckily Illinois laws already cover LGBT students), but instead it provides “model bullying prevention...

I Hate the Patriarchy
Me: I was eating lunch on campus when I saw The Edge bus and the ad across the side. It displayed a woman half naked sunbathing with the words, "She lives at The Edge." Another ad displayed a male playing in the pool. The message: At The Edge, men get to play while having plenty of hot women to hit on." That's sexism.
Random Male: its called excellent marketing
Me: It's called promoting the rape culture.
The Edge: You must have missed part of the message Chelsi, the other side of the shuttle reads "He lives at The Edge". You must have been distracted by the photo of the hot guy, LOL. I'm truely sorry if the photos offended you, its not the intent.
Random Male: lol how is it promoting rape? Both sides clearly say. He/she LIVES at the edge. And both the guy and the girl are attractive. Would it be considered less "pro rape" if the guy and girl were both not attractive and had acne. And the girl looks like she is having a good time as well. Shes all smiles and laying out at the pool, sounds like a fun and relaxing time regardless of what sex you are.
Random Male #2: I think rape is simply committed by rapists. Don't excuse the act by saying it's caused by images on the sides of buses. Sexism is when one sex is shown dominating another. That's clearly not what that picture displayed.
Response to Male #1: It promotes rape because it reduces the woman to an object. She's clearly placed in a way meant for men to stare at her "assets".
Response to Male #2: If you only see blatant sexism, you're missing out on a lot
Response to The Edge: I'm gay, so, no I was not distracted by the hot guy. My point was that the advertisement featuring the male showed how much fun one could have at The Edge. The female advertisement was geared to show that there were hot girls at The Edge. ((I wasn't able to post it because they deleted my original post.))
This is a conversation I had on Facebook after speaking out against an incredibly sexist ad posted by the apartment complex.
